Ipad and human rights

Looking at the media over the last week it seems that thousands of devices are blocked by MoC in Israel.

The truth is that there are only 10 devices confiscated and a few hundrest in US waiting for shipment.

Under these circumstances one would ask "So what's the big issue ? " Just wait a bit longer and get your iPads.

So, what is really all about ?
It's about human rights, free trade and how commercial interests can affect all of us.

As for today, it is clear to everyone that there is no real technical issue with iPad and European & Israeli standards.

If it was a real issue, it was simple to MoC to test a device and prove it. It was simple to iDigital (Apple rep in Israel) or to Apple to say loud and clear " Yes, the European devices will have other standards. But same devices will be sold in Europe and Israel with the same standards (as it's for iPhones, iPads, Macs...)

So why they don't do it ? Commercial interests ?

  • Apple enjoys the buzz (as always, lot's of free PR) and probably want to secure iDigital
  • iDigital do not want to rush as they want the approval to be granted as close as possible to their lunch of the iPad in Israel
  • MoC enjoye free PR and probably protect commercial interest of some companies that will sell iPads

All around, if we take in account 5000 iPads that might enter Israel until the official lunch, it's about 1.5 Mil$ less profit for the government and the companies .

All these worth violating people rights and creating such a negative buzz for Israel ?
I'm not sure. Are you ?
